Fifth year classmates at Selkirk High School dug deep for Katie’s Trust when Kerr bravely offered to have his legs waxed on last day of term. Katie W was on hand to do the waxing/inflict the pain – we are all wondering if it was as sore as it sounds? I am sure that someone will be producing the evidence on FB shortly. Bruce (aka Beyonce) was doing a brisk trade at the same time with wristbands. Between them the boys raised a fantatsic £231 – a fantastic effort and thanks to everyone who contributed.

Friday night saw the return of Sid Griffin and the Coal Porters to their favourite venue – Midlem Village Hall. The place was packed in anticipation of a great evening – and we were not disappointed. There were all the old favourites, some new songs from album to be released in September and an outrageous cover of Paint it Black (Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na…..)!!
There were many familiar faces in the audience from 18 months ago and we used the interval to update everyone on what Katie’s Trust has been doing – **newsletter**
For those of you who missed the gig but might be intrigued who the Coal Porters are then have a look at the website – Coal Porters. And if you want a sample of their music then here is one of our favourites – Closing Time Genius.
Many thanks to Phil & Patricia (who sadly missed the gig), Midlem Hall Committee, the audience and especially the Coal Porters! You helped us raise a fantastic £675!!

Patricia & Phil Hitchcock have kindly arranged for the The Coal Porters to play Midlem Village Hall on Friday 18th May. Sid Griffin and his fantastic bluegrass group (http://www.myspace.com/thecoalporters) will again take to the Midlem stage to entertain us in a good cause. We are all looking forward to the evening – if you would like a ticket then let us know asap!

Ann and I have just returned from the end of term assembly at Selkirk High School. We were presented with a £2,000 cheque by the sixth year charity committee. They have been busy all year with events like wear-what-you-want days and Christmas bazaar, culminating in a 10-mile sponsored walk. We would like to say a big ‘thankyou’ to Fergus, the sixth years and everyone who supported them.
