Fifteen cyclists took to the Border roads on Sunday 21st August to raise funds for the Katie
McKerracher Trust as part of the Ken Laidlaw Sportif. There were two routes – 52 miles
and 105 miles – with participants taking between 3 and 7 hours to complete their chosen
route. The fundraisers were kitted out in specially designed cycle shirts, and were given
the honour of leading the event through Hawick Town Centre (see photo). We would like
to thank Hawick Cycle Club for its generosity and for organising such a fantastic event.
We would also like to thank all of the supporters who cheered us on and ran the essential
feed stations.
Photos available here , here and here (many thanks to Ian Bell).

Tap Heavy – Katie McKerracher used to dance with the Lesley MacFarlane School of Dance in Hawick, until a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (rare brain tumour) tragically cut her life short at age 11. The mum’s of Katie’s dance class are learning to tap dance so that they can put on a show as ‘Tap Heavy’ during the Dancing Display on 14th September 2011. Tap heavy are – Ann McKerracher, Jackie Powolny, Wendy Douglas, Debbie Ferguson, Eileen Davies, Susan Forsyth, Marina Arnot, Pauline Renwick, Pamela Rayner, Lesley Fraser and Judith Wilson. They are raising funds for Katie’s Trust and are aiming to raise more than £3500 – Santander have offered to match the first £3500.

A fundraiser organised by Jeremy Brett, Brett Investments, raised over£1300 on 13th March 2011. Around 60 people enjoyed an afternoon at the Townhouse in Melrose watching the ’97 Lions game and the Calcutta Cup. Martin Baird Butchers provided the very tasty pies and Alan Mathieson kindly organised the entertainment. Thanks to the Townhouse and Burts for the venue.
